大叔小時候對金錢沒有任何認識，家人給多少零用錢就用多少，完全沒有儲蓄想法。到大學時更加揮霍無度，當時因為申請到全額資助和低息貸款，所以三年大學每年都有8萬多元轉到戶口。扣除學費和教科書，餘下有3萬至4萬元可以自由使用，即每天有百多元。而大叔當時並沒有慳錢的想法，每天都快樂地吃喝玩樂。
到畢業出來工作，開始要還那筆「低息貸款」，記得大約是12萬，分5年還款，每季還款1次約6千元。照理應該是每月先扣起要還款的數目，但大叔時常在第一二個月都餘下好少錢，到第三個月時就勒緊褲頭還錢，所以幾年來都沒有儲到錢。現在回想起當時完全是一名月光族，是很好的反面教材。
那大叔什麼時候開始有理財觀念？大約在201X年時，開始有閱讀的習慣，那時主要看九把刀系列和東野圭吾的推理小說。後來有次在書局買了本以故事形式帶出儲錢和慳錢的理財書，突然就開啓了大叔對理財知識的渴求，不停閱讀這方面的書藉，後來更在書中認識了股神巴菲特、芒格、彼得林奇，開始學習價值投資。
自此大叔在生活上改變了不少，學習量入為出，應使則使。每月先扣起儲蓄部分，餘下的再作支出。開投資戶口進行實戰，亦學習利用借貸套息。然而間中都會萌生希望在股市賺快錢的念頭，但很多時都是平手或蝕錢收場，最終都是長線投資較適合大叔。
